What’s the girls’ school advantage?

The Texas Girls School is a proud member of the International Coalition of Girls’ Schools. Check out this video to see what makes girls’ schools so transformative.

A hands-on STEM-focused middle & high school for girls?

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE

First, let’s unpack what we mean by hands-on. Being “hands-on” means we encourage students to dive deep into learning through activities, field trips, and real-world problem-solving. We foster curiosity by offering opportunities to explore Texas history, science, culture, and the natural world. This approach allows our girls to take ownership of their learning, discover their passions, and develop critical thinking skills, especially in STEM. Exploration is at the core of both academic achievement and personal growth.

Next, let’s break down what it really means to be STEM-focused. At The Texas Girls School, being STEM-focused means we prioritize hands-on learning where students apply academic concepts to solve real-world problems. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, but it’s more than just subjects—it’s a mindset. Our girls use creative, design-based thinking to approach challenges, preparing them for future career opportunities in high-demand fields. Through projects, explorations, and critical thinking, we foster an environment where innovation and discovery are central to each student’s growth and success. And finally, we’re a middle & high school for girls. We’re dedicated to creating an environment where girls can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally—without the distractions or limitations often found in coed settings. Research supports that girls’ schools foster a unique climate where female students can express themselves freely, take on leadership roles, and feel confident in pursuing subjects like STEM. With a focus on building self-confidence, academic excellence, and leadership skills, our single-gender approach ensures girls are empowered to break barriers and achieve their full potential in any field they choose.

All of our girls will have the opportunity to deeply explore environmental or aerospace engineering through the Foundations of Engineering Pathway in high school, with a strong base in middle school Computer Science. Every day, the girls have a STEM Block, with a curriculum based on the design cycle to create a problem-solving engineer’s mindset. This course follows the CTE (Career and Technical Education) framework of TEKS standards. On Fridays, after our female speakers series guest speaker, students engage in a full day of rotations through Project-Based Learning, preparing for their Exhibition of Learning, Student-Led Conferences, or Field Experiences.

Texas STEM

A typical school day

School days like these make it easy for girls to get out of bed in the morning! Here’s what your daughter can expect.

College and Career Advisory Block

At the heart of our school is Advisory, a heartfelt class led by our dedicated College Success Advisors. It's where dreams take shape—where girls reflect, set bold goals, and map out how they will change the world. Here, every girl is given the space to uncover her unique strengths, cultivate resilience, and build essential leadership and communication skills, culminating in a curated Senior Portfolio Graduate’s Journey Project, showcasing their thoughtful planning and purposeful action. Advisory also fosters supportive circles, where girls build strong relationships, uplift one another, and walk the TRAIL to success together, empowering each other to reach their highest potential.

At The Texas Girls School, incoming students benefit from a double block of math designed to help them catch up, achieve grade-level proficiency, or advance. Our innovative curriculum includes hands-on science courses like UT OnRamp’s Earth, Wind, and Fire and an innovative Texas-based ecology class. Middle school students progress through Math, Pre-Algebra, and Algebra I, while high school students follow a rigorous pathway that includes Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II or Dual Credit, and advanced options like Pre-Calculus, College-Level Calculus, Statistics, and Engineering Mathematics. Students also have access to dual credit opportunities through our partnership with Austin Community College. In addition to personalized learning plans and tutoring, students can engage in competitive math clubs, integrated STEM projects, and engineering challenges supported by our industry partners, ensuring every girl is prepared for success in both college and future careers.

Math & Science

The Texas Girls School places a strong emphasis on the visual arts, encouraging creativity and artistic expression through a wide variety of mediums. Students explore drawing, painting, sculpture, and design, with opportunities to develop their own unique senior portfolios over time. Our program is designed to inspire innovation, critical thinking, and mastery of technique. Theater, World Dance, Spanish, and other diverse extracurricular programs are driven by founding student interests, allowing each girl to pursue her passions both inside and outside the classroom.
